A Review of Events |

Fellowship We held an inter-chapter weekend in conjunction with the Leadership/ Homecoming and Initiation Committees. The weekend started with the Graffiti Party held by the Initiation Committee on September 28. Early the next morning, we sold baked goods for our homecoming charity, Teach for America. That night, along with member from the community, we ate as many tacos as we could for only $5. From the taco dinner, many Brothers went to the Field of Screams. It was a good time had by all. We do want to thank the Alumni who attended those events including Annie Jo Howard, David Paul Defina, William John Riley, and Meagan Elizabeth Beachler.

Fundraising Another semester has passed and fundraising is still happening. This past semester we completed two fraternal fundraisers (Friendly' Fun Nights) and one personal fundraiser (Boas Subs). Sigma Chapter raised a total amount of $295.70 during the two nights at Friendly's combined. For next semester, we are switching the location of the Friendly's to the one on Centerville Road. The dates of the "fun nights" will be announced next semester and will be in the minutes. I invite everyone to come out to Friendly's to support Phi Sigma Pi. Thanks again to everyone who has supported us through donations and participation in Friendley's Fun Nights.

Leadership/Homecoming Chapter Sigma may have experienced a recent decline of census; however, there has been no lack of service projects. The traditional causes of Adopt-A-Highway and Alpha Club have provided ample opportunity for Brothers and pledges to get involved in the local community. This semester we combined the Leadership and Homecoming Fundraising committees in an effort to provide greater output with less active Brothers. The formula was successful! With the leadership provided by our Homecoming Charity King nominee, Jeffrey Allen Miller, the Brotherhood hosted an all-you-can-eat taco dinner. Through donations of much of the food and supplies, we were able to successfully raise close to four hundred dollars at one event. The total donation to Teach for America exceeded $1000.00. During Rush Week, the Brothers held a Back Pack Attack, assembling twelve backpacks full of supplies for students in the Gulf States affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Initiation This semester’s Tripod unveiled a new and updated version of Sigma Chapter’s most well-known event. Instead of focusing solely on the Initiates, our semi-annual camping trip switched gears by adding more Brother bonding activities. These activities included a Brother scavenger hunt, the “secret” bonding circle, and least we forget- the famous Polar Bear swim. Incorporated into the weekend as well were two-opportunities for both Brothers and Initiates to complete our required committee-hours, as mandated by the new Chapter Operating Policies. Clinton Bryson Adams taught the Brothers and Pledges about “How to Build the Perfect Fire,” while Stacey Louise Peterson organized a cookie-bake and card-making session for soldiers serving overseas. Overall, Tripod was success this year. Rebecca Joy Stambaugh and Meghan Elizabeth Wander would personally like to thank the initiation committee for making Tripod wonderful. A special thanks also goes out to Meagan Beachler, Amber Brown, Adelia Edwards, and Annie Jo Howard for coming out to support the Brotherhood! |
