Q: What's in it for me?
A: The number one purpose of attending University is to get an education. However, a university education encompasses more than academics. Acacia is involved in enhancing academic achievement, hosting social events, human service, developing men into tomorrow's leaders, participating in sporting events, and much more.
Q: What is Rush?
A: Rush is the process of getting to know the guys in a fraternity. Rush lets you learn more about fraternity life and decide if membership is for you. At Acacia, rush takes place all year, with specific fun events at the beginning of each semester. All Millersville students are welcome to come out to rush events, regardless of your program or year in school. You may also hear fraternity members refer to you as a rush or rushee. Although it's difficult to remember everyone's name when you're rushing, don't feel intimidated or nervous - just be yourself and have a good time.
Q: What kind of activities does Acacia get involved with?
A: Here is a brief list of activities:
* Brotherhood [like having your own family at school]
* Community Service [300+ hours per semester]
* Intermural Sports [football, basketball, softball, hockey, etc]
* Academic Loyalty [2nd best grades among Fraternities, 1st among pledge classes]
* Chapter Bonding [close relationsips with all Acacia chapters, inlcuding Canada]
Q: Can Acacia help me improve my grades?
A: Academic success during time at Millersville will largely limit or expand your future options. It's always easier to maintain a GPA than to raise one. Acacia has members in a variety of departments, making it easier to find someone who can you help you out with specific courses.
Q: What happens after I have rushed for a while?
A: After you have rushed for a while, a rush may or may not recieve a bid to pledge. Although one can only pledge with the invitation of a bid, that person is most likely to still stay in close contact with the fraternity. Some rushes may receive a bid and decide that joining a fraternity is not for them. Either way, a friendship between the rush and the fraternity remains strong. The important thing to remember is that rushing never stops, and a person may receive a bid at any time in his career at Millersville, so it is always best to never give up.
