Philanthropy

The S. June Smith Center

sjunesmith

The S. June Smith Center is a center for infant to school-aged children with mental and physical handicaps.

We have helped our national philanthropy by creating crafts, helping in the Battle of the Banks, working in their Car Cruise and raising money for them through the Chairty Queen Contest.

The Special Olympics is another of Alpha Sigma Alpha's national philanthropies. It aids children with mental disabilities to become physical and socially active.

EK has helped the Special Olympics through donations of money and supplies. We have also worked with the local Lancaster chapter in different sporting events and their bowling competition.

Adopt-a-Highway

aah

Epsilon Kappa is very dedicated to keeping our local area clean and we have "adopted" two seperate highways. We visit each highway at least 3 times a semester. One is minutes off of our campus on Charleston Road next to Manor Park and the other is a bit further down 741E, Long Lane. These highways are a great way for us to spend the morning together while making the community cleaner.

The Clare House is a center in Lancaster, PA for battered and homeless women to keep themselves and their children safe. It provides a safe-haven for families who need to get their feet back on their ground while giving them support.

We contrubite our time and money to this orginazations. When they hold monthly business meetings we go to the shelter and babysit their children. We have also supplied them with ample amounts of all of the items on their wish lists.

Water Street Rescue Mission

The Water Street Rescue Mission provides shelter, food, and security to individuals and families in need in the Lancaster area. By bringing religion into the lifes of these people they are able to get them back on a good tracks.

Epsilon Kappa helps out the Water Street Rescue Mission by serving dinner to their residents to help the staff of the mission. We also donate many items that they need.

The local Habitat for Humanity in Lancaster, PA does wonderful work building and modifying houses in the area so that families in need can live in them. The families work directly with the crew to create a house for their future. We have worked for Habitat to participate in the build process in a house minutes from campus. We have also helped them ship materials between build sites and put the finishing touches on a house ready to be moved into!
