information about the states as well as a copy of each constitution.
A resource under construction (and somewhat
confusing to get around), this site is nonetheless very ambitious and offers
some unique Internet information. Designed for middle and secondary students,
the site focuses on the American Revolution and the Civil War.
A wonderful site dedicated to providing
primary resources and archival material related to American History and
culture. Materials come from the Library of Congress. There is a special
Learning Page (LINK) for classroom teachers.
The For Educators section has lesson plans,
bibliographies, AV resources, and Asian art.
Black History: Exploring African-American Issues on the Web
Contains Web sites developed as models to
suggest ways to integrate the Internet into classroom teaching. The sites were
developed around the topic of Black History and other African American units.
The essential CNN site for
world news, sports, business, technology, etc.
ERIC Clearinghouse for Social Studies/Social Science Education Directory
Contains links to other Internet sites of
interest to the Social Studies educator.
History/Social Studies Web Site for K-12 Teachers
An elaborate directory of
links to sites for a large variety of social studies topics.
Kid's Web is an engaging site designed for
kids around the major academic subjects. The Social Studies section contains
some simple information on the
Lesson Plans and Resources for Social Studies Teachers
Just what it advertises itself to be. Updated regularly.
This site has earned well-deserved attention
and praise. This is an excellent collection of information on multicultural
education and activism. There is a Teacher's Corner.
The Web site of the National Council for the
Social Studies, the largest organization in the country devoted solely to
social studies education, this site is a wealth of information. The site
contains Teacher Resources which are based on the ten themes of the Curriculum
Standards for social studies, which are also outlined here.
Though started to encourage informed voting
during election periods, this site is a wealth of information on both state and
national House and Senate members, their voting records, and where available,
their campaign funding.
A fun site to look at, updated with links to
"new" items, this is a good directory of Internet links and lesson
plans for the social studies educator.
The United Nations CyberSchoolBus
The United Nations has offered a fun and
interactive site for kids with activities, games, quizzes, links, and lessons
on a variety of global topics.
The CIA World Factbook
has long been a primary source of demographic and geographic information on
countries and regions all over the world.
