Second intention remarks

Maestro Bernacchi:

the concept of second intention is a very general one: fencing is all second intention.
It is built on feigning to avoid parries, or on attack actions made
intentionally "short" to lure the opponent to parry and therefore to be
able to counterparry the usual riposte of the opponent.

MUFG Attends Jack Hespenheide Competition.


On Sunday, March 27th, MUFG fencers alumni journeyed to
York, Pennsylvania, to compete in the Jack Hespenhide Foil at the York
YMCA. This event honors local coach Jack Hespenhide, who has been teaching fencers for
over 70 years.
Mr. Hespenhide, who will be 99 May, showed up to present the medals.

MUFG alumni coach Chris French finished tied for 3rd in a tough field of 22.
Christopher Medalis, of MUFG, came in 13th.

MUFG Hosts E Foil March 24th


10 competitors arrived at Brooks Gym at 7:00 PM for the first USFA event hosted by MUFG in over five years.


MU fencer Christopher Medalis went undefeated for the evening (7-0) taking home gold, and re-earning his USFA foil rank of E-06.


Other MUFG members assited with site preparation, timing, score-keeping, and photos.

Recent News

Recently MUFG Advisor Christopher Medalis won Silver in an E-Epee on March 11, 2006; and brought home Bronze in a C-Foil on March 12, 2006. Both events hosted at Black Diamond Fencing in Harrisburg, PA.

Also, MUFG Coaching staff were featured in an article appearing in the Lancaster Intelligencer-Journal dated March 15, 2006. Jeanne Thompson, Chris French presented a 6 week beginner foil course sponsored by Lampeter-Strasburg Recreation.
