* Officers for this semester:

Shaun - Vice President
Mike - Treasurer
Jess - Secretary
We will need to go to SMC at some point to get this made official, as well as gain access to our mailbox and our bank account!
* For Insect Appreciation Day, we are planning on having the following activities:
- Colloquium with guest speaker Dr. Jeff Tomberlin whose talk is titled, "Capturing the Benefits of Insects: Using a Parasitoid Wasp to Detect Indicator Compounds of Human Importance".
- Picnic/Cookout to be held after the colloquium.
- Inauguration of the Butterfly Garden
- Cricket spitting and beetle racing for prizes; four square
- Movie shown out in the Quad that evening
- Insect food
- Information tables
- Fundraisers: selling T-shirts, baby tarantulas, and cockroaches
* The order for more t-shirts should be sent out this week so that we can have t-shirts to sell on September 18th.
* The beetles for the race will also have to be ordered within the next week or so.
* The Butterfly Garden must be cleaned up and ready to meet the public. If possible, it would be nice to have a plaque for it as well, stating what it is, who made it, and thanks for those who helped make it (dept. of Buildings & Grounds, etc.).
* Fliers advertizing the event will be sent around campus as soon as all of the planning for the activities is finalized.
* We discussed possible trips that we have the opportunity to take this semester. One, being held October 5th, is the Insect Fair at Penn State, and the other is to Ft. Lauderdale, FL Nov. 15th - 20th. See Dr. Wallace or come to the next meeting for more details.
* The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 6th, at 12:30pm - 1:30 pm and is being held in room 116 (Dr. Wallace's lab - just come on in!).
We are open to suggestions concerning meeting place/time for future meetings! If something works out better for you, let us know!
Until next time!
