A
Letter to the Alumni
Dear Alumni Brothers,
The summer is over, and it is now time for the active brothers of the
Gamma Tau chapter to get to work. The summer picnic was, as usual,
a great success. An estimated 25 alumni came back to visit the chapter.
Also, last semester we initiated five new brothers, putting the chapter
at a comfortable 24 active brothers this semester. This makes us
the second largest fraternity at Millersville.
The fight for taking first semester freshmen (legally) has begun, and the
Greeks of MU won the first battle. We may now take freshmen if our
chapter GPA is above a 2.5 and our new member classes maintain above a
2.25. The Sig Tau’s are proud to say we can take freshmen and we
are taking advantage of this policy to its fullest. We are taking
nine new pledges this Fall, the largest, I believe, since Spring ’93.
The chapter has a good chance of having over 30 active brothers next semester.
We have also picked up yet another transfer brother, this one being from
the Pittsburgh-Johnstown chapter. This is the third transfer brother
in two years.
The Gamma Tau chapter’s dues were raised last semester from $95 to $110.
These extra dollars are being put towards the increasing national dues
and the rush budget. We are trying to create more events for rush
than there was in the past. The rush budget has been raised from
$120 to $250 in the past year. Next semester I hope to have almost
$300 allocated for rush. Your donations will be greatly appreciated
to help further improve our rush events. One of the best ways to
get these freshmen to go Sig Tau is for them to really see that it is Sig
Tau for Life! I hope to have the Spring rush schedule out before
the end of this semester so I can send it out with the Spring edition of
The Score. All Alumni are invited and encouraged to all the chapters’
activities.
Not only has the chapter been hard at work with rush, we have also been
fundraising and have a couple of philanthropies planned for this
semester. We had our annual car wash on September 19th, and it was
a great success. Not only did we make over $250, but we also met
Sig Tau’s from Shippensburg and a Gamma Tau chartering brother from 1972,
Michael Weik. Tom ‘Yoda’ Glisson will be our Charity King in the
Homecoming halftime show. We will be fundraising for The Christina
A. Ciallela Endowed Scholarship. If you would like to donate any
money please do so by October 23rd and make checks payable to The Christina
A. Ciallela Endowed Scholarship. Your donations are very much appreciated.
Another philanthropy that is in the works is Books for Kids. This
is our national philanthropy and Gamma Tau alumni Scott Yoder will be visiting
the chapter on November 8th to help guide us into this huge project.
More details about Books for Kids will be in the Spring edition of The
Score.
Brothers Matt ‘Pee-Wee’ Butz and Jim ‘Pyle” Hollis traveled down to Norfolk,
VA this past summer for the 1998 Grand Chapter. According to these
brothers, it was one of their most memorable Sig Tau experiences.
They actually witnessed a brother getting inducted into the Society of
the Seventeen!

Homecoming
October 24th
The annual Homecoming football game will
be on Saturday, October 24. The Millersville Marauders will be taking
on West Chester University with a 1:00pm kickoff. At the game the
chapter will gather at our usual place on the hill, by the baseball dugout.
The active members of the chapter will be hard at work selling peanuts
at the game once again, thanks to Brother Rodney ‘Moose’ Roberson and his
father. Be sure to buy a lot of peanuts to support the chapter.
Also for the Homecoming festivities, we have paired up with the ??? sisters
to win the Homecoming events again. We took first place last year
with ??? and plan to do the same this year.

New
Chapter Advisor
Have you ever heard the name Charlie Greenawalt? He is a professor
here at MU and also a Gamma Tau Alumnus! Professor Greenawalt was
in the Alpha class of the Gamma Tau chapter back in 1972. He was
kind enough to get back involved in the chapter the best way he could,
by becoming our new advisor. Thank you brother Greenawalt!!

News and Gossip
There is no gossip at this time but I would
like to restart this section of The Score that has not been done for quite
a few years now. Please contact Jim Hollis to shoot the sh-t so that
in the Spring edition of The Score we will have something to gossip about.

Scholarship
Program
Since our grades count so much to taking first semester freshmen, we felt
it was time to adopt a real scholarship program. There are many ideas
on the table right now, and we hope to pass a solid program before the
beginning of pledging. Some ideas have been: paying $0.50 for
every missed class and competing in teams with the losing teams paying
for a brother’s social. We also need alumni support to give out scholarship
awards. I hope to raise enough money through donations to give out
four monetary awards. They are: Highest member GPA - $50, highest
associate GPA - $50, most improved GPA - $50 and highest Big/Little combined
GPA - $20 each. If you would like to donate any money for this specific
cause, please send donations to the address on the back with a note to
what it is you are donating the money for.
