GAMMA TAU CHAPTER

THE SCORE  16TH Edition, Spring 1999

A LETTER TO THE ALUMNI

Dear Alumni Brothers,

A lot is going on with the Gamma Tau chapter.  We, unfortunately lost seven of our nine pledges last semester, leaving us with only two new brothers initiated for the Fall 1998 pledge class, Jon Unangst and Adam Price.  We have regrouped though, and we are looking forward to the Spring and keeping more pledges.
Well, it is finally happening!  Our nationals are forcing us to change our Executive board.  Apparently, we are the last chapter of Sig Tau to have our E-board terms from May to May.  The rest of Sig Tau and MU Greek life has January to January terms.  Therefore, elections were held on Sunday, February 7, 1999 for the new E-board members.  They are:

-  President – Tom Overberger (Already decided in the
Fall semester, so he's just getting an early start.)
-  Exec. Vice President – Mike Ebner
-  VP of Membership – Jeff Ratcliffe
-  VP of Finance – Paul Koenig
-  VP of Programs – Tom Glisson
-  Sergeant at Arms – Joe Santoro
-  Secretary - Bart Seaman

By the way, start checking out the Millersville University Greek Life  homepage at (http://www.millersville.edu/homedocs/fratsor.html).  Past President, Jim Hollis, is in the process of finalizing the Gamma Tau website.  He hopes to have it on line by mid semester.  So keep your eyes open.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

Money, it is what we need.  Money is what makes this fraternity function.  We need it for a good rush, good picnics, and good financial status with nationals.  We also need help.  We have more things to donate to also.  We allocated $190 for scholarship awards, national dues are always increasing, the rush budget would like to see more money, and the cost of producing The Score is increasing.  Here are some numbers for you to think about.

If 300 alumni donate just $10 a year - that is $3000 that the chapter could put to use, or donate to philanthropy.

Even if 300 alumni just donate $5 a year - that is $1500 that the chapter could use.

There are other things that the fraternity will accept donations for.  We could use money to donate to Books for Kids or to the Christina A. Ciallela Endowed Scholarship.  The bottom line is, we need the alumnus financial support to help the chapter.  Remember - Sig Tau for Life.
The chapter will also be collecting books for the Books for Kids foundation.  If you would like to send books, here are some guidelines:

They need to be new books.
They need to be for the elementary age group.

IMPORTANT DATES COMING UP

Pledging will begin once again Sunday February 21.  Which means, a lot of fun stuff is coming up.  The alumni picnic will be held on April 9th and hellnight will be April 10th.  We are looking forward to a great alumni attendance this picnic and so is Ray.
Not only is pledging a fun time for all, so is the Spring Formal.  The formal will be held, once again, at The Britannia on April 23rd through the 25th.  The cost of the event will be $160.  Alumni attendance to Spring formals always makes it a better time for all.  It is a time to reminisce and talk about the future.  So try to clear your calendars for that weekend and plan to attend.  Please contact Jim Hollis at 717-871-6287 by Friday, April 9th to RSVP.

NEW PHONE NUMBERS

Since there is a new E-board, I thought many of you might want some of the new phone numbers to contact them.

ALUMNI GOSSIP

--   “Remember brothers, ZIG don’t ZAG.”  This is what Brother Clay Rundell said not too long ago.  Unfortunately Clay broke his humerous in his left arm when he decided to scope the scene during a recent ice storm in Baltimore.
Take care of that arm Clay, and remember to ZIG.

--   Brother James Tickner has a pretty good idea brothers.  It seems that the website “excite.com” has large chat rooms that can be used by anyone, anytime.  Tic mentioned the idea about having the old Sunday night meetings again.  What do you think?  Contact Tic at JimTickner@mailexcite.com.

--   Congratulations to Brother Brian Hueber on his engagement to Kate.

--   Congratulations to Brother Mike Roberto and former White Rose Queen Cathy Harvey on their engagement.  It's about time.

--   The active brothers of the Gamma Tau Chapter would like to thank Brother Scott Yoder for his guidance in the Books for Kids philanthropy.  Scott has offered to pay for the Spring Formal to the brother that collects the most books.

More is needed in this section.  Please keep the gossip coming.  You can send it via mail, phone, or e-mail.  Send e-mail to Jim Hollis at: jph67592@marauder.millersville.edu.

TOM AND HIS NATIONAL EXPERIENCES

President’s Academy was definitely an experience.  Who actually thought that I would be at 101 Ming Street!  Especially the fact that I was in the van when the president of Edinboro was pulled over in the headquarters parking lot.  I actually learned some things at the meetings, and learned even more while attending the night sessions at the nudie bar.  Hopefully I will be able to use some of this stuff when I take over (although a little earlier than expected).
I was also in attendance at the Regional Conference held in Philadelphia, along with Paul “Noodle” Koenig, Joe “Paco” Santoro, and Joel Baron.  It was disappointing, however, to see only four chapters of seventeen attend.  The good news though is that we may get a chapter at University of Pennsylvania.  The highlight of the weekend was lodging at the Bensalem home of brother Jim Hollis.
